The idea for Tasting the Air Cowboy came to me after I was brainstorming ideas for what to paint for a unique sized frame I had thrifted.

After a few people told me I should name him I landed on the name Clive. It seems fitting for a cowboy! Clive is a coachwhip snake which I always thought was a really cool name for a snake. They fade from deep black at the head to a pale tan color at their tail and are named coachwhip due to their likeness to a coil of braided rope.

I imagine maybe this cowboy is an outlaw escaping to the Guadalupe Mountains in Texas where the rustic landscape is difficult to transverse for those chasing him. Or maybe he really is a cowboy and he's riding his horse that is just out of the frame corralling his cows back home. We'll never truly know, but we can make up all sorts of stories about who Clive really is and I think that's the fun about this painting!

Tasting the Air Cowboy prints are only available as 5x7 prints matted due to the unique size of the original painting. Each print is made here in my studio, lovingly titled and signed on the mat, packaged, and shipped by me.
